Travel across the region with the City Metro Express Lanes. Running along I-10 between Union Station and Felix Lego City International Airport (FLX), the Express Lanes provide a faster, more reliable option for drivers and City Metro buses traveling through the corridor.
The Express Lanes are designed to keep traffic moving even when the regular freeway lanes are congested. They are available to eligible vehicles and are also used by City Metro buses, helping transit vehicles maintain more predictable travel times.
The City Metro Express Lanes operate along I-10 between:
Union Station → Downtown Lego City → Emergency HQ → Felix Lego City International Airport (FLX)
Express Lane access is limited to designated entrances. You cannot simply cross into the Express Lanes wherever you want.
There are four designated Express Lane entrance points:
Union Station
Downtown Lego City
Emergency HQ
Felix Lego City International Airport (FLX)
When approaching an entrance, follow the overhead signs and lane markings. If you miss an entrance, continue on the regular freeway lanes and use the next designated entrance.
Express Lane pricing can change depending on traffic and operating conditions. Always check the posted Express Lane sign before entering.
The price displayed on the sign at the entrance is the applicable price for that Express Lane trip. Prices may be higher during periods of heavy traffic and lower when traffic is lighter.
Express Lane trips may also be free at certain times. If the posted sign displays a $0.00 fare or indicates that the lanes are free, no Express Lane charge applies for that trip.
There is no single fixed Express Lane price, so don't rely on an old price you may have seen elsewhere. The signs at the entrance are the final source for the current fare.
Using the Express Lanes is simple:
Plan your route. Make sure the Express Lanes will take you toward your destination.
Approach a designated entrance. Look for signs identifying an Express Lane entrance.
Check the posted price. The current Express Lane price will be displayed before you enter.
Enter only where permitted. Use one of the four designated entrances at Union Station, Downtown Lego City, Emergency HQ, or FLX.
Stay in the Express Lanes. Follow the overhead signs and pavement markings.
Exit at the appropriate location. Follow the signs for your destination and leave the Express Lanes only where a designated exit is provided.
Do not attempt to enter through gaps in the barriers or cross solid lane markings. Express Lane access points are specifically designed to control where vehicles enter and leave the facility.
The Express Lanes are also bus lanes. City Metro buses use the Express Lanes to bypass congestion on I-10 and provide more reliable service.
This means you may see City Metro buses using the Express Lanes alongside other permitted vehicles. The lanes are an important part of keeping bus trips between Union Station, Downtown Lego City, Emergency HQ, and FLX moving reliably.
If you're riding City Metro, you don't need to do anything special to use the Express Lanes. Just board your bus normally and let your operator handle the Express Lane portion of the trip.
Check the signs. Express Lane prices and operating conditions can change.
Use designated entrances. The Express Lanes can only be entered at Union Station, Downtown Lego City, Emergency HQ, and FLX.
Don't cross the markings. Entering or leaving outside designated access points is not permitted.
Watch for buses. City Metro buses share the Express Lanes, so give buses plenty of space when entering, exiting, or traveling alongside the lanes.
The regular lanes are still available. You never have to use the Express Lanes. If you don't want to pay the posted charge, remain in the regular freeway lanes.
Whether you're heading to Downtown Lego City, connecting with City Metro at Union Station, traveling toward Emergency HQ, or catching a flight at FLX, the Express Lanes give travelers another way to get across the I-10 corridor.
Check the signs, enter at a designated location, and enjoy a more reliable trip.
